From the sermon in the hands of an angry God, the main purpose of the sermon is to scare the Puritans into fearing God so they would believe in him and scare the Puritans into not doing anything wrong. The sermon that we heard was very contrasted from the idea and preached that God is a loving God and Jesus was sent to Earth to forgive our sins and to be sacrificed for us.
I like that rather than just saying they are different by one being Law and one being Gospel, you explained that preaching almost all Law was used as a scare tactic.
ReplyDeleteI like the use of the word "scare" in the opening statement, because that is exactly what the sermon sought out to do. I also like how you showed what makes God loving- He offers forgiveness and grace.
